  •  PERSONAL

Greg was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD and has resided there his entire life other than a short hiatus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He attended Cathedral Grade School and entered O’Gorman High School as a freshman the day it opened, graduating in 1965 as proud member of O’Gorman’s “Charter Class” – the first class to have attended all four years.

Greg regularly claims that his bride, Kaye Marie (Richter) LaFollette, is both his inspiration and his guiding light. They met in the spring of 1972 and were married in December of that year. The marriage turned Greg’s somewhat chaotic early life around as he quickly learned responsibility and maturity at the direction of his ever-so-patient now wife.

Greg’s passion in life is focused on kids. He was active in the SD Chamber of Commerce Youth Business Academy and spend many summer weeks teaching aspiring high schoolers the nuances of business. That later led to his teaching Junior Achievement’s Personal Finance class. He served as a volunteer speech (oral interpretation) coach at his alma mater, O’Gorman High School, and was very proud of having coached and accompanied scores of students to national competitions over a dozen+ years. He was honored as the District Volunteer of the Year by the National Speech and Debate Association in 2016 and was inducted into O'Gorman's Hall of Fame in 2018.

Local civic involvement was also important to Greg. He served on Boards of Directors for Head Start, Sioux Falls Community Theatre, Project Threshold, McCrossan Boys Ranch, Sioux Falls Area CASA, and Prairie Repertory Theatre. He is a 50+ year Rotarian (past President,) , a 4x Paul Harris Fellow, and led a Group Study Exchange Team to Brazil in 2008. He worked on many Sioux Empire United Way committees, chaired the Board of Ethics of the South Dakota CPA Society for 17 years and later served on and Chaired the Board of Ethics for the City of Sioux Falls for 8 years. He very much enjoyed his involvement with his weekly breakfast group of over 30 years and his friends at the Avera McKennan Fitness Center where he exercised almost daily since it’s opening in 1997.

In 2017 Greg spearheaded the successful effort to bring ride-sharing to Sioux Falls. He worked with state and local officials and his mryiad connections in the technology world to entice LYFY to launch their service. It was LYFT's 50th state and South Dakota's first TNC.
